Hair has never been just hair to me. Every character has a story, and every look should help tell it.
When I read a script, I’m not simply thinking about hairstyles. I’m thinking about who the character is, where they’ve been, what they’ve experienced, and how their appearance can support the story before they ever speak a word. That’s where my creative process begins.
For more than two decades, I’ve had the privilege of working across television, film, music, and beauty, collaborating with extraordinary artists to help bring stories to life. Every production has reinforced what I believe most: the smallest details often have the greatest impact.
As a Department Head, my role extends far beyond designing hair. I build teams, develop creative workflows, collaborate with writers, directors, producers, costume designers, and performers, and bring together exceptional talent to execute a shared creative vision. I believe the strongest leaders aren’t the ones who try to do everything themselves. They’re the ones who know how to build the right team and create an environment where everyone can do their best work.
Leadership, to me, is about trust. It’s about listening, mentoring, solving problems, staying calm under pressure, and making sure every artist feels empowered to contribute to something bigger than themselves. When a department is supported, creativity flourishes.
I’ve been fortunate to contribute to productions including Reasonable Doubt,
The Boroughs, Swarm, The Big Door Prize, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, Till, and The Fabulous Four. Every project has challenged me to grow, think differently, and continue refining my craft as both an artist and a leader.
My passion for building extends beyond the set. As Executive Director of Banneker Class of 1989, Inc., I’ve helped create opportunities for students through scholarships, mentoring, and community initiatives inspired by the belief that success is most meaningful when it’s shared.
That same philosophy inspired me to cofound the Leading Beauty Industry Awards (LBI Awards). I wanted to create a platform that celebrates excellence, recognizes artists who often go unseen, and reminds beauty professionals that their work has value, impact, and purpose.
Whether I’m designing a character, leading a department, mentoring an artist, or building organizations that uplift others, my mission remains the same:

She has a unique ability to identify, build, and lead the right team to execute at the highest level. Whether designing the looks herself or bringing together exceptional talent to execute the creative vision, she understands how to align the right people, processes, and artistry to produce exceptional results.
Her leadership extends beyond hair design. DeeDee is highly skilled in production management, team building, continuity oversight, workflow execution, and delivering under pressure in high stakes production environments.
